Eight Random Things

January 20, 2008

I’ve been tagged by Rich Becker to do this meme. I’ve always said no to memes in the past, because I had niche blogs, but how do I say no with a personal blog?

1. My first job was as a dishwasher at the Tamworth Inn, in Tamworth, NH. I was still in school and earned minimum wage, $3.35 per hour.

2. I earned money before that though. My first business was keeping hens and selling the eggs to local restaurants. The hens came from a man who raised them for meat. Periodically a company truck came and took them all away. The farmer got to keep those who escaped the truck. He sold me 50 of them at $1.00 per chicken. This was sometime in grade school.

3. My father and I drove those chickens home in a van. Some of them decided to roost on the dashboard and even the driving wheel while my father was driving.

4. My second and more lucrative business was selling antiques, especially old paper, including advertisements, magazine covers, and newspapers. I did this in the summer during my junior and senior years in high school.

5. My second job was working for an auctioneer. He sold antiques and often did house auctions.

6. My first publishing adventure was not blogging. In high school I was a layout editor for my yearbook. This was in the days before computers, of course.

7. The first computer I ever worked on was a Wang in 1976. Our math teacher taught us to do short, simple programs in Basic.

8. In high school I was best at math and science. Learning how to write took longer.

And now I have to do something else I’ve never done before, tag people. Let me choose a few people from my blogroll, Tiffany Sanders, Ender, and Bobbie Sullivan.

Just realized that either my software or WordPress had comments turned off on this post, despite my settings. Must remember to check every single time.

Well, Ender has posted her 8 things, and it begins with some funny chickens.

    Mark,

Thank you for such great insight and participating. Like you, I don’t always know what to make of these memes, but so many bloggers enjoy them and I have to admit that I always enjoy learning more about the people I’ve met online.

Hmmm… the next time someone asks me which came first, I am going to defer them to you.

    Best,
    Rich

Okay. You tagged me. I did it. :-D

Good resume. Spells out a good dose of life, as a precursor to your present endeavors.

With many of us who aspire to nothing higher than sloth, gluttony, and greed, you obviously aim at a larger order. What’s the old saw? Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts. Maintain that larger order, my friend.

Wow… Stoneman you’re a hardworking person. Speaking of you as a layout editor without using computer (weew) can’t imagine how hard is that.

You know what is hard work is… My congrats and best wishes
