About

My name is Mark R. Stoneman. I use the middle initial here, because other people share my first and last names.

I am a historian and am currently living in Washington, D.C. I specialize in modern Germany as well as war and society. My research interests include social and gender history, military culture, military thought, atrocities in war, and historiography. At the moment I am teaching introductory survey courses at George Mason University and Georgetown University. I also teach English as a Second Language (ESL), and I do translations from German into English.

I blog about history at Clio and Me and various writing and language topics at Language for You. This blog, Stoneman’s Corner, is for anything else that I decide to write about.

Think you know me, but you’re not sure if I’m the right Mark Stoneman? Here are some of the other places I’ve lived besides Washington. They’re all in New Hampshire (USA) and Germany: Chocorua, Rye, Durham, Hanover, Freiburg i.Br., Augsburg, Wertheim, and Munich. I’ve also spent a lot of time in Regensburg.
